Could you elaborate on this diversity of people you’ve worked with and the experiences and challenges your clients have faced?

Over your 23-year career, you’ve worked with a diverse range of clients. Could you elaborate on this diversity of people you’ve worked with and the types of experiences and challenges your clients have faced?

Over two decades, I’ve had the privilege of working with over 250 clients. These individuals have come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their own unique stories and perspectives.

In terms of the issues I’ve worked with, they range from childhood trauma and abuse to loss, and low self-esteem. Clients have come with identity issues, people who have struggled with prejudice and discrimination, leading to a sense of diminished self-worth. Many have also dealt with significant life transitions and existential dilemmas, seeking clarity and meaning in their lives.

My clients have come from varied cultural, economic, and social backgrounds. For example, I’ve worked with individuals from Islamic communities and clients with Scandinavian roots—I am Swedish myself. Socioeconomically, my clients come from different backgrounds, and their perspectives on life have been shaped by their experiences within these contexts.

My clients' age range has been equally diverse, from young adults just starting their journeys at 18 or 20 to older individuals in their 70s and 80s. Gender-wise, I’ve worked with both men and women. Additionally, I’ve worked extensively with couples, helping them navigate relationship challenges.

Another important aspect of my work has been with student therapists—individuals training to become counsellors and therapists.

In sum, the diversity of my clients has profoundly shaped my understanding of human nature, resilience, and the universal quest for meaning. Each session and each person has been a unique contribution to my growth as a therapist and as a person.
